What happened in humans?
One randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study followed 63 recreationally active men for 8 weeks. Participants received either 250 mg or 500 mg of purified Shilajit per day, or placebo.
Researchers tested maximal voluntary strength and repeated high-intensity leg extensions designed to create muscular fatigue.
The interesting part?
After the fatigue-inducing exercise protocol, the Shilajit groups showed a smaller decline in strength compared with placebo. The researchers also observed changes in serum hydroxyproline.
Caffeine stimulates the nervous system and can make you feel more alert. Research around Shilajit is looking at a different question: whether its mineral-rich composition and bioactive compounds can support the physiological processes involved in energy production and physical resilience.
And what about chronic fatigue?
This distinction is important. Fatigue is a symptom with many possible causes, including sleep problems, nutritional deficiencies, illness, stress and other medical conditions.
Current human research on Shilajit does not establish Fulvic Acid or Shilajit as a treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / ME. What the existing research does provide is an interesting starting point for studying energy metabolism, exercise-related fatigue and physical performance.
Why are minerals part of the conversation?
Cellular energy production depends on a wide network of enzymes, minerals and metabolic reactions. Shilajit naturally contains a complex mixture of minerals, fulvic acids and other organic compounds.
This complexity is one reason researchers study the whole Shilajit matrix rather than assuming that one isolated compound explains every observed effect.
Human research gives Shilajit an interesting position in the study of fatigue and physical performance. An 8-week controlled trial found encouraging results for maintaining strength after fatigue-inducing exercise. However, evidence is still limited, and these findings should not be presented as proof that Fulvic Acid or Shilajit treats chronic fatigue or disease.
